The well-known innovation Cyclero® from Huhtamaki is the basis of a new concept for our customer illycaffé. The new innovation REFILLY was co-developed by Huhtamaki, the coffee manufacturer and the machine manufacturer Optima and has already been successfully re- leased into the market. REFILLY is a tailor-made and exible re ll pack that is simply pushed into an existing 250 g illy metal tin. It is easy to open, keeps the aroma intact and reduces waste weight and volume of empty packages by 80 %.
Forming demands and nding solutions
The creation of the REFILLY has exceeded all demands of offering end consumers an ecological and alternative packaging solution that cre- ates signi cantly less waste. Up to now the only possibility to pack the grounded coffee hermetically was the metal tin. The metal tin ensured the aromas and the roasting gas (CO2) could not escape, but of course was too good to be thrown away after one use.
The solution: a can-shaped exible pack which is able to preserve the quality and taste of the high-end product and at the same time sustains the pressure requirements of the product packed. This is exactly what the Cyclero® technology was developed for.
The customer should literally feel the air releasing from the can when opening and inhale the aroma with all of his senses. Thanks to a release valve in the exible peel lid the can is able to release the air pressure in a controlled manner. This allows the end consumer a rich coffee aroma experience.
Opening the packet under pressure is easy to do, safe and requires less effort than opening the metal tin.

Together we have developed a true innovation for the coffee market. REFILLY is a break through innovation that takes a large step forward in terms of its impact on our environment. At the same time it preserves the quality of the product and continues to make drinking coffee a superb aromatic experience. The weight of the package was reduced by 80 %, as bulkier parts are reduced to a minimum and generally serve to t the stable form of the metal tin.
